At Home: Adaptations and Resilience
This issue draws attention to the vigor and adaptability of creative practices over the last 12 months. It is an opportunity to ruminate on the numerous ways we have made adjustments in our lives and in our living spaces to accommodate artistic and academic pursuits. Areas of the home that were once neglected have now become the places we cherish most, as studios and office spaces. For some students, their dances are choreographed in the living room, their bedrooms host the podium for online symposiums, their floor space is dedicated to making and building, and thesis research is being conducted from the couch. With this publication we ask: How have our social interactions and our relationships to the outside world changed in the last 2 years?
How have our creative processes been impacted in the midst of this global transition? What will the future hold for the artists and scholars of our community?
This journal is important for the continued enhancement of research at Concordia University, and its effects on the local community. It will serve as an archive of our combined narratives, interpretations, and inquiries. In addition, the publication will demonstrate work from the Faculty of Fine Arts to potential future graduate students and members of other institutions, creating opportunities for collaboration and knowledge transfer. We would like to thank our many supporters for their ongoing trust, enthusiasm, and efforts. Thank you to the faculty and staff in the Department of Art Education at Concordia University, and to the Graduate Program Director, Dr. Vivek Venkatesh for your insights and encouragement. Thank you to our funding partners, including the Graduate Student Association (GSA) and the Concordia Council on Student Life (CCSL). Thank you to all the students and alumni who submitted to the journal - it is an absolute pleasure to be able to connect in new and creative ways with all of you. Thank you to Christine Leakey whose graphic design expertise and passion for art make this issue so enjoyable. Thank you to Clark Goldsberry for your attentive and thoughtful edits. And finally, a big thank you to our ArtEGs volunteers, who worked tirelessly to birth this project: Zoe Compton, Emma June Huebner, Nancy Long, Natalie Pavlik, Shannon Roy, Cristine Vista, and everyone in the Art Collective for their positive and productive contributions.
